DIY Spa Night
Posted: Dec 18 2015
Who doesn't enjoy a little pampering now and then? We sure do, but we know how expensive trips to the spa can be. Fear not, we've got a DIY plan that will leave you feeling completely relaxed and blissed out, without breaking the bank.
First, a little preparation is key...
Prep Tip 1: Book it in
Schedule your DIY spa night ahead of time, just like you would book in an actual appointment. This way you won't feel rushed and can fully embrace the experience.
Prep Tip 2: Eliminate distractions
Unless your phone is on airplane mode and being used for softly playing music, put it away! If you live with others, make sure to tell them your plans ahead of time, so they will be conscious of your peace & quiet.
Prep Tip 3: Set the mood
Ambiance is critical for a DIY spa night. Burn some essential oils or your favorite candle, dim the lights and put on the comfiest outfit or robe that you own. If you have a relaxing playlist or even a guided meditation, add that to the background.
And now onto the relaxing treatment you deserve :) …Depending on how much time you have, you can follow each step or pick and choose a few of your favorite DIY spa techniques from the list.
Step 1: Cucumber Water or Herbal Tea
Most spa treatments start with a refreshing, detoxing drink because it helps your body and mind unwind. You can make you own cucumber water here or simply have a cup of your favorite tea.
Step 2: Paraffin Hand Therapy (Using a Crock Pot)
If you have a crock pot, you’ve GOT to try this out. Paraffin wax has many benefits - including softening of the skin, while also minimizing inflammation and alleviating pains and aches in the muscles, making it the perfect spa night addition.
Step 3: Hair Mask
For a super simple, hydrating hair mask, combine coconut oil, olive oil and honey into a bowl and pop it in the microwave for 15 seconds. Apply the mixture to your hair and leave it on while you complete the rest of your spa treatment. You'll love the way this hair mask moisturizes your locks for a fabulous look and feel.
Step 4: Bath Treatment
Bring your candles, soft music and drink of choice into the bathroom for blissful bath. For a high-end spa feel, you can add homemade tea bags - filled with epsom salt, lavender, rose petals and bath salts, creating an oasis of natural fragrance and relaxing minerals.
Step 5: Body Scrub
While in the bath, try out one of these amazing body scrubs, which will help exfoliate the skin, leaving it silky smooth and radiant.
Step 6: Rinse
After your bath, jump into the shower for a quick rinse and then get back into your comfy clothes for the final two steps of your spa night.
Step 7: Avocado Face Mask
We love how natural this face mask is! Simply blend 1 avocado, 2 teaspoons sweet almond oil, 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar, 3-4 slices of cucumber and 1 teaspoon of honey together in a blender. Rub the mixture on your face and neck to enjoy glowing, soft skin.
Step 8: Foot Wrap
While still nourishing your face, apply any lotion or this homemade treatment to your feet and put plastic wrap around them. Then wrap a hot, wet hand towel around your feet for 10-15 minutes.
Step 9: Final wind down
After your foot wrap has finished, rinse your feet and face with warm water and apply your normal moisturizer.
To finish off your spa night, keep the lights low, curl up in your comfiest clothes and stay disconnected from technology. Sometimes all you need is one night off to get your mind, body and soul back on track.
