8 Tricks To Stay Sane & Healthy At Work

Does your job require you to sit at a desk, staring at a computer for most of the day? If so, you’ve probably felt some negative side effects including tension, stress, fatigue, unhealthy cravings and irritability. We’ve been there too!
Fear not, we’ve got some killer tips to stay healthy and happy at work :)
1. FALL IN LOVE WITH H20
Staying hydrated impacts every part of your physical and mental health. Keep a water bottle at your desk at all times and set goals on how much to drink throughout the day. If you get bored drinking unflavored water, see our simple recipes for infused water here.
The second part of this tip is to cut back on the caffeine. We know what you're thinking and we love a good cup of coffee too. BUT, if you’re hitting a massive wall in the afternoon, getting headaches, feeling jittery or irritable, try swapping your usual coffee for a naturally energizing fruit like apples instead.
2. GET MOVING
Moving your body is so important for your focus, productivity and overall energy throughout the day. Make sure to get up regularly (set an alarm and do this every hour if possible!) to stretch your body or take a quick walk.
Also, fit in any extra movement that you can while at work. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk to and from meetings, do 5 squats in the bathroom - have fun with it! This movement will instantly give you a boost in energy and release endorphins in your brain allowing for more creativity and focus.
3. POSTURE MATTERS
If you have poor posture throughout the day, it can lead to aches and pains in your muscles and tension headaches. Make sure to use a chair with firm lower back support and set your computer at elbow height.
4. PLAN YOUR MEALS
Working in an office that is filled with unhealthy options can be really challenging, especially if you're stressed or tired. Planning is key here! Schedule your meals ahead of time so you won't be tempted to head to the local pizza joint at lunch everyday.
If you work long hours, you will definitely need snacks to keep you going so you don't binge at mealtime. Keep healthy options like veggies, fruit, raw nuts on hand.
5. KNOW YOUR LIMITS
Your brain needs breaks throughout the day, so don't ignore signs of mental fatigue. Taking breaks may seem difficult when you have a massive to-do list in front of you, but trust us on this one. Even a few minutes away from the computer screen, especially if you can sneak outdoors, can provide the boost you need to finish your work effectively.
6. SCHEDULE YOUR WORKOUTS
It's SO easy to make excuses to miss workouts during the week but a sticking to a regular exercise routine is essential for reducing stress and boosting life satisfaction. Schedule your workouts on Sunday, and treat them like a mandatory meeting during the week.
7. FORM A HEALTH SQUAD
Find some co-workers that have similar health goals and create fun, healthy challenges within your group. Commit to working out together after work, see how many fruits and veggies you can eat in a week, try cutting out your daily diet pepsi together, etc. Having accountability partners at work can be the difference between overindulging and skipping a workout or sticking to your goals.
8. HAVE A BACK UP PLAN
Sometimes work can be overwhelming and stressful even if you've done everything right. Find a 5-10 minute activity that instantly puts a smile on your face that can help you return to your work in a better mental state. This could mean going for a quick walk outside, calling a friend, looking at a funny cat video or an inspirational speech online.
